Where are you going?
I could tell you all about Kyushu’s onsens, while you’re planning a Hokkaido trip.
That wouldn’t be very helpful, would it?
Remember though, Japan isn’t a huge country, but it varies wildly between prefectures.
Each region has its own delicacies, traditions and legends.
The same thing goes for onsen culture, too!
So while choosing an onsen to match your location and itinerary is great,
why not go on a virtual journey below and see what catches your eye?
You might end up changing your plans completely to chase that perfect soak…
Choose a Region
If you’re new to travel in Japan: here’s a quick crash course on each region!
– For the area including and surrounding Tokyo, you’ll want to check out Kanto.
– The central part of Japan, where Nagano and Nagoya are located is called Chubu.
– To the west of Chubu, you have Osaka and Kyoto, which are in Kansai.
– Moving further southwest, you’ll hit Chugoku which has Hiroshima, and the large island below is Shikoku.
– The southwestern-most part is Kyushu, featuring Fukuoka and Beppu. Going further across the sea leads you to Okinawa.
– North of Kanto, you have Tohoku where Aomori and Akita are located. The big island across the sea is Hokkaido.
